Frame issues

Our systems can be installed on most if not all frame manufactures with no modifications.

I have a difficult frame to mount the sensor on - any tips?

Cervelo:  Please mount the bottom bracket style sensor cable on top of the cable guide & leave a minimum of 3mm of distance between the power sensor and plastic lid of the PowerMeter.

Cannondale:  The bottom bracket style sensor cable will work with the bracket for the cable guide.  You may want to affix some double-sided tape on the mount so that lateral movement is prevented.

Titanium/steel frames:  The original style sensor cable is the best sensor cable to use.

What bike frames need special PowerMeters or modifications to work with SRMs?

A: The new Trek Madone, BB30 frames require a specific Madone PowerMeter. Older Dura Ace, FSA, Cannondale, Specialized, SRM Pro and Amateur PowerMeters will not work with this frame design.

B: Some BB30 frames will require a bearing, axle or bottom bracket modification to work with an SRM system. This information can also be obtained through your bicycle manufacture.

Can I use SRMs on a tandem bike?

It is possible and it has been done as follows:

The front person needs to have the PowerMeter mounted on the left side of the frame, and their SRM will report their individual power. There is a modification inside the PowerMeter that will need to be made to enable the PowerMeter to be mounted to the left side of the frame, so let us know when you order it that you wish to use it this way.

The second person will have a normal PowerMeter mounted on the right side, but it will report the sum of the Power of both front and rear rider. The Power of the first rider will have to be subtracted on the downloaded files.

We do not currently have a way to separate the powers of the first and second riders in real time, for the person on the back of the tandem.

Installation of wireless systems

It is recommended that you have your system installed by a professional bike shop or service technician.

What do I need to install for my wireless system?

For Wireless SRM Systems, there are three items needed to mount to the frame. (1) the speed sensor (either Suunto Road Bike POD or Bike POD) and the wheel magnet , (2) the handlebar clip, and (3) the cadence magnet.

When installing the cadence magnet, be sure to align the magnet to pass over the path of the reed switch. If you find you are getting inaccurate readings for power or cadence, try moving the magnet closer to or further away from the PowerMeter lid. It might also be necessary to change the height of the magnet (see special bike frames).

Installation of wired systems

It is recommended that you have your system installed by a professional bike shop or service technician.

How should I install the sensors for my wired system?

For wired SRM Systems, the proper placement of the sensor cable is crucial for power measurement. Be sure that the sensor is placed so that magnetic end is over the Reed Switch, and the white square printed on the sensor is over the sending coil. If using the new style sensor cable (which mounts under the derailleur cable guide) be sure that the top of the plastic housing installs level to, or slightly higher than, the sending coil. From this position you can then move the sensor closer or further away, adjusting for proper transmission.
