SRM Supports PLAN International - Interview with Beate Schoberer
20110922_beateschoberersrmQ.: SRM launched a limited edition SRM PowerControl 7 for the 25th anniversary of the company. What criteria did you use to choose the beneficiary charity organization?

A.: Plan International is one of the oldest and most respected international child-focused organizations. It is the aim of Plan International to improve the living conditions of vulnerable children in developing countries in a sustainable way. Our donations help Plan to support the development of personal values, such as family, education and human rights in parts of the world that are not constantly in the focus of media attention, but where discrimination, slavery, human trafficking and forced labour are part of children's everyday life experience.

Q.: Why did you choose Plan International?

A.: Our four children enjoy a free and wealthy life here in Germany. However, in many regions of the world there are millions of children who neither have a home, nor access to fresh water or food or medical treatment or school education. I have known Plan International for at least 20 years. I am now supporting my second sponsored child in Ecuador since 1995. My experience with Plan International has always been very positive.

We will support a project with the sales of our 25th Anniversary SRM PowerControl 7. Freeing Kamalari Girls is a special Plan project I read about a while ago and it is very important to me. The fate of these girls who are sold into slavery when they are about 5 or 6 years old really touched me. Plan International rescues many of these girls from exploitative child labour and gives them the opportunity to attend schools and gain skills to start their working life. Plan International supports individuals and also their entire region and communities to help people to help themselves. With this approach, Plan International makes sustainable achievements in 50 countries around the world.

Q.: Who benefits from which projects and how effectively can the use of donations be verified?

A.: SRM has set up an account to collect the donations. Our special edition of PowerControl 7 is limited to 250 pieces and $ 400 of every sold 25th Anniversary Edition PowerControl 7 will go to Plan International. $ 200 are a donation from the customer and SRM will contribute an additional $ 200 for every piece sold. Each of the 250 PowerControl 7 is made of a new red anodized aluminium case instead of polyamide and is numbered.

Plan International is officially recognized as a non-profit association. Plan International passes on at least 80 % of the sponsorship contributions and donations. The remaining 20 % of the donations are used for expenses like taking care of sponsors, public relations, fundraising activities and programs in the field of development education. Everyone can view Plan's annual statement of accounts to see information on how the donations and sponsorship contributions have been used. The auditing and consulting company Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) awarded Plan International a third place prize for transparency among charitable organizations in November 2010 in Berlin.
