Sagan Soars to Victory in Stage 1

July 1, Stage 1: Liège - Seraing 198km

SaganStage1finishPeter Sagan of Liquigas Cannondale delivered a remarkable performance in yesterday’s cat 4 climb finish for his first Tour de France stage win! The team bus was rocking with excitement as the Slovakian power house outsprinted RadioShack Nissan Trek’s Fabian Cancellara in yellow and Edvald Boasson Hagen of Team Sky.

Team Liquigas Cannondale has been a part of SRM's Pro-Tour sponsorship program since 2007. Their athletes train and race on the SRM Cannondale PowerMeter & PC7.

Peter and Liquigas Cannondale staff members shared the winning SRM race file. Although Peter has only been racing professionally since 2010, he was able to strategically ride the 198km stage with teammates, Nibali, Basso, Canuti, Koren, Nerz, Oss, Szmyd, and Vanotti, to take the first stage win of the 99th Tour de France.

Sagan’s average power over the day was 206 watts and required over 3,550 kilocalories. He held an average cadence of 72rpm and an average speed at 39kph. The course profile was rolling hills with just under 2,000 meters of total altitude gain.
