Inclement weather didn't dampen spirits at todays Demo Day, day one of 2013 Eurobike. Set in the picturesque, hilly region of Allgäu in Southern Germany, cycling enthusiasts flooded the town of Argenbühl for the opportunity to test ride all that the cycling world has to offer. Despite the weather, our crew at SRM were kept busy throughout the day with cyclists eager to try our road and mountain bikes, each equipped with an SRM PowerMeter and PowerControl. After being briefed by SRM technicians, each rider headed out into the countryside to put the 'pedal to the metal' to see exactly what SRM Power Training is really about, and what sets our SRM Training System apart from competitors.

The road race has a 30 year history and is considered one of the hardest races in the German-speaking region. Last year 20,000 athletes applied to receive one of 4,000 available entries. This year, SRM will not only donate the prize for first place in the Ötztaler Radmarathon, SRM will also have a booth at the Sattelfest (Saddle Fest), an exhibition that is all about the bike race. The Saddle Fest will take place August 23-24 in Sölden. Representatives from SRM Germany will be onsite to introduce product and answer questions. An SRM IndoorTrainer will be part of the display, and there will be a number of fun power-based games with prizes. The race itself will take place on August 25. The course provides 5,508 meters of climbing over 227 kilometers. The last ascent to Timmelsjoch is 28.7 kilometers long with 1,759 meters of climbing.

However, tests were not limited to humans, the robots were subjects as well. The scientists were testing both their suitability and their durability. The experiment ended on Saturday (April 27). The experiments are conducted under the supervision of Professor Dr. Franz Kummert and Professor Dr. Britta Wrede. The eight test subjects spent 18 days living closely together in a sealed off area of the Institute of Aerospace Medicine at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) in Cologne. ‘Their living conditions were almost as cramped as those in a Space Shuttle,’ said Kummert. Distraction was provided by two robots, Flobi and Nao.
