Stage 18 of Vuelta a España was a hilly 186.5 kilometers through the mountains of Cantabria. Vasil Kiryienka of Team Sky took the stage win while RadioShack Leopard's Chris Horner moved within 3 seconds of red jersey holder, Vincenzo Nibali, in the General Classification. Horner, the 41 year old American professional, distanced himself from Nibali on the steepest section of the final climb, Peña Cabarga, and finished 6th for the day. The 10th stage of Vuelta a España covered 186.8km of hot and hilly inland terrain. "The first half is straightforward but then come two tough GPMs," explains José Azevedo. "The first will produce a selection. The final climb is not so long but it's very steep, so this will be an important day for the GC contenders as it is the first big test of their condition." RadioShack Leopard's skilled veteran, Chris Horner, passed the test with an exceptional performance and stage victory. The 41 year young American pulled away on the final climb with 4.5km to go and left 48 seconds between himself and Vincenzo Nibali.

Vuelta a España's Stage 6 was a sprinters course and covered 175km of inland terrain from Guijuelo to Caceres. The majority of the race was led by Tony Martin who was not caught until after the 500 meter mark. Saxo Bank Tinkoff's Michael Morkov was victorious in the final sprint followed by Maximiliano Richeze (Lampre) and Fabian Cancellara (RadioShack-Leopard).

Vuelta a España's Stage 3 followed a relatively flat 184.8km route along the Spanish sea coast and featured a summit finish in Mirador de Lobeira. RadioShack Leopard's accomplished veteran rider, Chris Horner, made a successful solo attack on the final climb, a 2km ascent with an average grade of 10%.
