Gallopin's Solo Attack Into Oyonnax

Lotto Belisol's Tony Gallopin won Stage 11 of the Tour de France with an impressive attack to the line in Oyonnax. The 26 year old french professional delivered a stellar performance as he powered to stay ahead of the chase group after a challenging 187 kilometers. Gallopin also earned the yellow jersey for one stage earlier in the Tour and this great victory has been another dream come true as it is his first victory for the team and the second win for SRM sponsored team, Lotto Belisol, this Tour de France.

Racing at 1m80 with approximately 70kg, Tony averaged 248 watts with an average cadence of 78rpm. His speed average over the stage was 42kph as he climbed just over 2,200 meters total. Gallopin finished with a 138bpm heart rate average and burned less than 3,200 kilocalories in the category flat stage.

"I had done a recon of today’s stage. I knew what was coming: that there was an uphill section of over one and a half kilometer after the last official climb, where it was steep and narrow. And that there was a descent towards Oyonnax afterwards." -Tony Gallopin

Tony Gallopin made his initial attack after the last categorized climb of the day. "A few hundred meters before the top of that last climb I took off and went down full gas," recalls Tony. "The gap was never big. When the three others joined [Kwiatkowski, Rogers, Sagan], I stayed in the wheel the next two kilometers, then I attacked. I knew the others would hesitate." 

Gallopin averaged over 360 watts in the last 13 kilometers and 424 watts in the final 3 kilometers. Tony's maximum power output coming into the finish was 1,050 watts at 60kph with 97rpm cadence.
